Reception 2025 - 2026
Miss Garner
Welcome to the St. Matthew's Primary School Reception Class Page
Welcome everyone!
At St Matthew's, we value all our children as individuals and we aim to celebrate their unique qualities through our school core values so they can really 'let their light shine'. We believe children are learning all of the time and we know through their play children are thinking deeply and learning about themselves, the world and others.
Communication and photos
- At St Matthew's, we use School Spider as a parent/school communication tool. It will have all the most recent class work, updates, news and events. Please check this regularly.
PE
- PE day is Tuesday morning, please come dressed in PE kit, this is a white plain top, black joggers, leggings or shorts, trainers and the school jumper. Please don't send your child to school in jewlery. This is provided by a sports coach with a member of the EYFS team to support.

Reading
- Book bags should be brought into school regularly so we can read with children, however books are changed once a week on Wednesday. You will receive a Monster Phonics book, a library book and when your child reaches this point in their learning journey a banded book also.
Snack
- Everyday school will provide a healthy snack, this is a piece of fruit and an additional item which varies daily. Examples include cheese and crackers, soft cheese and cucumber, yoghurt, houmous, crossiant and breadsticks. We use this as a teaching opportunity and a chance to try something new with our friends. We also use snack time a time to talk and share stories to develop communication and language.

Lunch
- As part of the governments universal offer children from Reception to Y2 are entitled to a free school dinner. We encourage families to use this offer to expand children's diet as we know it can be tricky at home. If this is the case we are happy for you to have a packed lunch and order a dinner as well to try new things.
- While the universal offer means that all children get a free meal we do ask that families check their free school meal status (FSM) as this is an indicator of pupil premium funding. If your child is FSM eligible then school will be able to recieve up to an additional £1,400 per year for your child in the yearly budget.
